A 3-hour tour of the ecovillage is usually arranged on each day of the annual Open Doors event. Details for 2016 to follow nearer the time - probably in November. ......... The tour will include visits to a number of homes: punctual arrival is essential or you'll "miss the bus". Please book for the 'Cloughjordan Ecovillage Tour' on this website .......... On arrival in Cloughjordan, please park on Main Street near the turning for Nenagh, WALK into the ecovillage and register for the tour at Django's Hostel. That's the first building on the left as you enter the ecovillage from Main Street. Do NOT bring your car into the ecovillage. .......... We regret that we cannot take bookings for specific houses or house types. However, a variety of homes will be open on each day so punctual arrival will ensure that visitors see more diversity. Contact details for late arrivals will be displayed at Django's. .......... We advise against bringing youngsters under about 16 on home visits: they'll soon get bored and you'll be distracted by having to keep an eye on them. However, if you do wish to bring them, please include them in the number of places booked. ........... We encourage rail travel for visitors from Dublin. The fare just is €9.99 each way if booked on-line at least 3 days in advance. The 0900h train from Heuston on Friday or Saturday will get you to Cloughjordan station at 1047h. (Times and fares correct at time of posting - but please check.) .......... There's no morning train on Sundays - but why not make a weekend of it? Stay at Django's and catch the Saturday AND Sunday tours! ......... It's a 15' walk from the station to the ecovillage, which is entered from the middle of Main Street. .......... We can recommend the Gourmet Gallery for an inexpensive pre-tour lunch or an after-tour dinner - and Sheelagh-na-Gig bookshop for coffee and cake, both on Main Street. .......... NB: Cloughjordan has no ATM, so don't arrive penniless! ......... Tours during Open Doors are free to visitors who have booked via the NZEB website. Other visitors will be accommodated if we have spare capacity, subject to a charge of €20 per adult, €10 per child - with a reduction of €5 for a visitor with a paid-for rail ticket. ......... Cloughjordan Ecovillage includes about 55 diverse low-energy houses, apartments and other buildings on one site, with an average annual bill in 2013 for heat and hot water of €247. Many of these are open to visitors during special events - but only by appointment. .......... We've classed the Ecovillage as complete, as all the houses on show are complete, and as built in 2009, based on the first completion. However, some were completed as recently as 2013 and we have Outline PP for ~75 more.......... Details of about 30 homes are given on this website. However, these entries are purely for background information - some of the homes listed may not be open during any specific Open Doors event. ......... Please note that all the houses in the ecovillage are private homes, not show houses. They are not open to casual visitors at any time. .......... Django's is a privately owned and operated hostel located within the ecovillage. (NB: the NZEB map shows it as located in Tipperary Town - in error!) It has 32 beds in shared en-suite rooms, plus owner's apartment. Concrete-block with external insulation. The only concrete building in the ecovillage - necessary to meet Fire Regulations.
